UTS Norths Shines at Treloar Shield Round 2

Our UTS Norths athletes put on an impressive display at the Treloar Shield Round 2 competition on 19 October 2024. The event saw strong performances across various age groups and disciplines, with several standout results worth celebrating.

Under 15s:
In the 2000m Steeplechase, the Bealby siblings showcased their endurance. Max Bealby claimed third place in the boys' event with a time of 8:34.48, while Isla Bealby secured an impressive second place in the girls' race, clocking 8:28.40.

Under 18s:
Andres Hampel blazed through the 100m in 11.16s, earning a whopping 25 points. In the field events, Elizabeth Whelan dominated the hammer throw with a 51.25m effort. The 400m hurdles saw excellent performances from Alex Ingevics and Thomas Scodellaro, who finished second and third respectively. 16 year old Estelle Walsh and 14 year old Evie Russell were separated by 0.01s in their 100m duel with impressive times of 12.45s and 12.46s.

Open Category:
Jack Berte led the charge in the men's 100m with a swift 11.30s. 18 year old Brenton Kerr had a personal best and bragging rights for the top performance in the 400m with a 49.51s just in front of a best effort from Jack Baker in 49.68s. In the women's events, Alice Dixon impressed with a 55.09s. Ashton Hanna and Matilda Ryan both shone in the 1500m, finishing second in their respective races.

Masters 35-49:
Nicki Drinkwater demonstrated her versatility, winning the 400m hurdles and long jump in her age group. Helena Smith showed strength in the throwing events, winning the hammer throw with a 31.52m effort. David Neill dropped a 2 second best in his 400m journey on the line in 60.44s in the wind and rain. Martin Szeto showing versatility with his contribution of 45 individual points and relay from 100m to 1500m events.

Masters 50+:
Tim McGrath had an outstanding day, winning the discus throw with 36.16m and sharing the top spot in pole vault. Chris Greatrex quietly got on with it just accumulating points as he moved between track and field events during the 7 hour competition. In the women's events, Maryann Hearn and Christine de Vries dominated the 100m sprint, finishing first and second respectively with Christine swinging the Hammer and jumping Long taking Norths over the 750 point mark putting over 200 points between the second placed East club with 530 points.

Relay Races:
Our relay teams showed great teamwork and speed. The women's Open 2x200m relay team clinched first place with a time of 52.56s and the junior team set an under 18 and under 20 club record. The W40+ and W50+ of Liz Morrison, Monique Perry and Maria Cimino, Christine De Vries took top honours in their category improving on the club records as well.

Special mention goes to our multi-event athletes who competed across various disciplines, demonstrating their versatility and contributing valuable points to the club's overall standing. Notable among these were Clark Donovan and Jesse Wright in the Open category, and Chris Greatrex in the 50+ age group, all competing in multiple events throughout the day.

The strong turnout and exceptional performances across all age groups highlight the depth and talent within UTS Norths.
